FREE FOAM PARTY, WATER FUN, & SLIME TIME TO SUPPORT CITIZENS OF UKRAINE
Svitlana Horyelova and her 8 year old daughter, Tetiana, fled Ukraine in March to escape the war. Their unexpected journey has now led them to Emerald Isle where they have been staying with friends.
As a former activities director for Princess and Royal Caribbean Cruise lines, Svitlana is ready to put on an event for the area while raising funds for citizens still in her country and for those who have chosen to flee. Svitlana is teaming up with Emerald Owl Productions, Inc. and Chapel By The Sea in Emerald Isle to host a free family friendly event this Friday, July 29 from 5:00-7:00 PM.
“We will have a foam dance party, water activities, and even a Slime Time Finale,” said Svitlana. “I miss leading activities on the cruise ships so I’m really looking forward to leading this event! Bring a few towels because you are going to get wet! The event is free, however, we will be taking donations for Sunflower Seeds Ukraine.
Pastor Clay Olsen of Chapel By The Sea said his church was happy to help when approached about donating the venue. “We knew this type of fellowship, bringing people together with good wholesome fun, and helping people truly in crisis is all a perfect fit for the mission of our congregation! We have decided to open it to the public!”
Svitlana explained the need to also help those who have chosen to flee. “Many have fled with just one suitcase. We want to work, but we have no cars, no health insurance if something goes wrong. I know one mom from Ukraine in Colorado bicycling to a job she found nearly one hour each way. What will she do when the autumn and winter arrive? She needs a car but many of us have no means to get one. We just had to get out when the bombing started.”
As for the event, Svitlana hopes people will make some lasting memories through the positive experience. “It’s going to be fun and I’m looking forward to being involved too!!! And I’m even going to get slimed by all the kids at the end! Hoping we can take a fun group photo afterwards to send back to people in my country and give them a smile!”
