One thing that makes EOP unique is we understand schools and their needs. Another thing that makes us unique is we are a professional production company willing to work on a percentage --- that is not very common. We often get asked by others in the entertainment industry why we would take that kind of risk. Here is why we do it:
Many of our staff members used to work or still work in education. This understanding of schools is what we used to create our fee structure for this division. We know that schools cannot accept a large financial risk, which would be the case if we just charged a fixed rate as we do in our Professional Division. We also know the "Dance Marathon" model is successful over time. (Read more about this data driven model HERE!) If we can partner with your school to build a new tradition at your school, we know it will be a win-win for everyone involved.
We also are familiar with fundraisers where you need to sell items. These items tend to be overpriced and are available at retail stores or on-line much cheaper. In short, you are overcharging your families on items they could get cheaper elsewhere so the school can make a profit. With our model, we provide an epic event --- so if a student raises $25, $50, or even $100, we ensure your student gets their money's worth via the professional experience we bring to you.
Furthermore, we have seen fundraisers where the school was quite successful and still had to pay 50% of their proceeds to the third-party company. By working on a percentage tier, the school's percentage increases as certain tiers are reached.
This design protects both the school and EOP:
1) If an event has a high gross total, the school keeps more of their percentage and is not paying out half the proceeds.
2) If an event has a lower gross total, EOP collects enough to pay our bills and help you plan for next year! Due to the overhead involved in professional productions, EOP could not be sustainable if we were only able to collect 30-40% of a lower gross total.
The percentage tier is fair and looks out for everyone. When we work on a percentage, we are looking for schools that want to partner to create an educational and fun experience that eventually becomes an established part of the school's culture. We know a fixed rate quote would be a major barrier to accomplishing this. That is why we work on a percentage -- we know first hand what is possible when we invest our time into that first year.
When a school might be interested in working with us, we first talk to the school's administration about goals, expectations, and the specifics of your venue. Keep in mind we are not a one size fits all experience. When we bring a professional event into your school, there is information we need to get from you so we can customize how to make it work at your venue. For example, we need to know available power, can your venue get dark during the day, etc.
During this initial conversation, we will determine what services and time commitment you need from us. Based on this, we will come up with an amount to ensure our basic overhead costs of your event are covered first (event planner, equipment reservation, technician, etc.) This amount is not profit for EOP, but ensures we are not starting the event in the negative. Once that overhead amount is reached (either through pledges or sponsorship), the percentage begins.
The percentage tiers are then as follows:
Keep in mind that most schools will increase their profits on top of their percentage by selling concessions, glow items, etc. of which you keep 100%.
When you work with us, your fees are not just paying for entertainment. We will be there every step of the way, giving you feedback based on our experience and what we know works. You will not need to reinvent the wheel when trying something new. After one or two years, you will know what processes work best for you and your school.
